Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family!
Whether this is your first time experiencing wood wick candles or you are an old pro, there are a few things to know before you ever light it.
Knowledge is power they say, so let us share our knowledge with you, with our tips, tricks, and troubleshooting to make your experience with our candles great from the first burn to the last.
Our sprial wood wick candles are one of the most unique and innovative wooden wicks on the market. Crafted with the utmost precision and attention to detail, our spiral wood wicks are made from high-quality, sustainably derived sappy fruit trees, sourced from FSC-certified mills and made in the USA.
These wicks not only enhance the overall aesthetics but they also emit a soft, comforting crackling sound reminiscent of a cozy fireplace or campfire. Allowing you to unwind and indulge in pure relaxation. The soft flicker of the flame dancing with the shadows creates a warm glow for the perfect atmosphere, helping to melt away the stresses of the day, leaving you feeling rejuvenated and refreshed.
Our spiral wood wicks are designed to burn evenly and efficiently, providing hours of delightful crackling ambiance.
Are you wondering what causes the crackle in wood wicks? If so, lets science for a moment...
All wood, even seasoned, and seemingly dry wood has water deep in its fibers. When the wood is burned, the water becomes heated to the point where it causes it to boil and release steam. If the steam becomes trapped, pressure is released causing it to weaken the surrounding wood and succumb. The steam released creates tiny little explosions giving us that sought after crackling sound.
Our hand-swirled wood wick candles are made of a
plant-based wax made from sustainably sourced soy and coconut, produced with quality protection by strong process controls. A precision hydrogenation process and complex blending capabilities, create specialized formulations to create premium waxes that do not need to be blended with paraffin or other non-plant-based waxes.
Our candles are made with waxes that are non-toxic and clean-burning. Free of carcinogens, and pollutants, which means our candles are less likely to trigger allergies and they will not give off any harmful byproducts or produce black soot that can stain walls and curtains.

Our Handle-Swirled, Spiral Wood Wick candles are a great option for people who desire a visually beautiful, highly scented candle with the sound of crackling wood in the background. Each of our candles is handmade, and our swirling technique makes each candle unique, a true work of art.
These candles are the perfect mood enhancer for any time of the year. What makes them extra special is that they are made with ethically sourced mica added to the wax to make each and every time you burn a Chaizing Fireflies Candle a swirling, shimmering, mesmerizing experience.
We understand the excitement of getting your new candle and wanting to light it but during your first burn, you must make sure to give your candle enough burn time to achieve a full melt pool that reaches all the way to the edge of the candle container. Depending on the size of your candle it can potentially take up to a few hours.
It sounds crazy, but all candles have "wax memory" and once a burn pattern is established, it can be hard to reverse.
You can see the candle in the picture, has not quite established a full melt pool and still has some remaining unburned wax around the edge of the candle glass. This is what we need to avoid.
If you do not allow your wood wick candles to achieve a full melt pool during the first burn, your candle will remember and will not burn the excess wax that was left from that first burn. So Instead of having the entire surface of the wax melt evenly, it will appear as though the flame is burrowing into the candle and creating a small, vertical tunnel.
Notice that the little candle has a perfect melt pool and reaches all the way to the edges.
Looking at this candle, we can see that there are several layers indicating several burns that have created the vertical tunnel. Eventually, this tunneling will become too deep into the center of the candle and will block fresh oxygen from the wick, or the wax will drown your wick, therefore, your candle will no longer stay lit for more than a few minutes, if at all.
This is a good practice for all jar candles with any variety of wicks.
After your first burn, making sure to reach a full melt pool is not necessary every time but it is ideal to extend the life of your candles.
We advise to, every once in awhile to give your candle a nice long burn to keep your candle looking great, smelling great, and burning evenly!
If it is to late and your candle has started to tunnel from not allowing a full melt pool during your first burn, don't worry, we can fix it!
If your candle will stay lit, wrap aluminum foil around the top of your jar leaving the center uncovered as shown in the photo.
This will allow more heat to remain in the candle and effectively "resetting" the memory of the wax. Think of it as a factory reset.
The height of the flame may vary when you do this, but as long as stays lit, it should continue to create a melt pool, just be patient.
Keep your wood wick candles trimmed to about ⅛”, and clean off any charred wood from previous uses. You do not have to have fancy wick trimmers. Wire cutters and nail clippers work great for timing wooden wicks.

This candle's wick has been cut to short and is allowing the melted wax to drown the wick extinguishing the flame.

Remember it’s not the wood fueling your candle’s flame, it’s the wax. The flame is drawing the wax upwards through the wick, so if it’s not trimmed short and clean, the wax can’t make it to the flame.
